“中国疫苗可以挽救美国生命”

当地时间10月26日，美国彭博社发表了一篇题为《中国疫苗能挽救美国人生命》的文章，引起广泛关注。

文章开篇即批评了美国政府因沉迷贸易战，错失与中国在新冠疫苗及其他生物医学领域合作的机会。

文章指出，联邦政府提前购买了7种新冠疫苗以确保这些公司为加速生产做好准备，却将中国疫苗排除在外，在目前尚不能确认哪款新冠疫苗安全有效之前，这个做法显然不够明智。

The biggest cost of the trade war — measured in lives lost, lingering business uncertainty and a longer economic downturn — is the lack of cooperation between the U.S. and China on vaccines and other biomedical advances.

文章称，起初，一些美国观察人士总喜欢对中国研发疫苗作出的努力冷嘲热讽，“而如今，他们都被中国疫苗的表现所惊艳。”

作者认为，“你不能把新冠病毒污蔑为‘中国病毒’，然后又告诉人们应该接种中国的疫苗。” 这也是特朗普政府至今并未努力与中国达成疫苗共享协议的原因。

You can’t call it “the Chinese virus” and then tell Americans they ought to take a Chinese vaccine. So the Trump administration has made no serious effort to make a vaccine-sharing deal with China.

此外，文章盛赞了中国疫苗的研发速度及具备的多重优势，更表示，“中国正以超乎大多数人想象的速度，成为了生物医药领域的主要大国。与中国的贸易战并不仅仅涉及苹果手机、大豆和沃尔玛的塑料玩具。如今，它已经涉及到了生死攸关的问题。”

At a faster pace than most people would have thought possible, China has become a major player in the biomedical sciences. Trade with China isn’t just about iPhones, soybeans and plastic toys at Walmart. These days, it is also a matter of life and death. 

作者强调，对美国政府而言，如果美国最终真的需要中国的疫苗，那可以说是一次令人惭愧的宣传失败。但在疫情已经对美国社会和经济造成巨大损害的背景下，只要能用上有用的疫苗，丢脸也不过是小小代价。

It would probably qualify as a humbling propaganda defeat if America turned out to need a Chinese vaccine. But eating a little crow would be a small price to pay for a useful vaccine, given the immense damage wrought by Covid-19.

全球疫情蔓延下，多个国家的新冠疫苗研发相继迎来阶段性进展。目前全球有10支新冠病毒疫苗已进入最后阶段试验，其中4款来自中国。

据介绍，目前中国共有13个新冠疫苗进入临床试验，研发进度走在世界前列。截至目前，中国共计接种约6万名受试者，未收到严重不良反应报告，初步显示了疫苗良好的安全性，预计今年年底中国疫苗的产能能达到6.1亿剂。

At a press conference on October 20, a Chinese official said nearly 60,000 people have been injected with China's COVID-19 vaccines so far and no one has reported severe adverse reactions.

Among the country's 13 vaccines in clinical trials, four candidates have entered Phase III trials with volunteers across 10 countries. China, at large, is expected to produce up to 610 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines by the end of this year.

当前，全球新冠肺炎确诊人数已突破4000万。

中国疫苗凭借领先技术和安全性，得到了国际社会的高度肯定。继阿联酋日前宣布紧急批准使用由中国研发的新冠疫苗后，印度尼西亚也正采取措施批准中国候选新冠疫苗的紧急使用。

为促进全球疫苗公平分配，中国宣布加入世卫组织发起的“新冠肺炎疫苗实施计划”，用行动表示对推动疫苗成为全球公共产品，以保障发展中国家能够平等获得疫苗的支持。截至目前，已有184个国家和地区加入该计划。

世卫组织总干事谭德塞指出，想要从这场全球大流行中恢复的唯一途径就是各国能够团结在一起，首先保障能为所有国家的特定人群接种，而不是一些国家的所有人。

China announced to join the COVAX initiative on October 9 to help the world fight against the pandemic. The talks are on with the WHO to have its domestically manufactured vaccines assessed for international use.

WHO's Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the only way to recover from the pandemic was together and by making sure poorer countries had fair access to a vaccine.

"It is natural that countries want to protect their own citizens first but if and when we have an effective vaccine, we must also use it effectively. And the best way to do that is to vaccinate some people in all countries rather than all people in some countries," he said.
